Mac Shack – Winchester

After a few months of telling myself that I’d like to try the Mac Shack, I was glad to finally have a chance to check out this once food truck turned restaurant in Winchester, VA. Once inside, I was surprised at the size of the establishment. The atmosphere was fun and inviting with a small game area in the back, making this a great place for families. There was also a pretty cool tiki themed bar, making this also a great place to grab a drink on the weekend. The tables along the perimeter walls have multi colored lights above them, which wasn’t something I noticed until after my food arrived. If you’re going for a meal, I recommend sitting at a table more toward the center of the floor so that your food isn’t cast directly by blue or green lights. The staff was friendly and attentive, however a number of items that were on the menu were sold out that day. Our food was served at a reasonable time from ordering, to being brought to the table.

Items Ordered

Total Time: 1.5 Hours

Flatliner Sandwich (Cheese-steak meat, house mac & cheese, on Texas toast) The bread was buttery grilled perfection, however the mac & cheese to meat ratios were off, leaving more meat to be desired.

Chili Cheese Dog The chili cheese dog was just that, a run of the mill chili cheese dog. The hot dog itself was larger, probably 1/4lb but the sweet chili was far from sweet.

Piggy Mac (House mac & cheese topped with pulled pork and BBQ sauce) The pulled pork was tender, and the BBQ sauce was nicely balanced between sweet and tangy. The Mac & Cheese was ok, the pasta itself was cooked well, and was not over cooked. However the cheese was slightly clumpy and there wasn’t much cheese sauce to speak of.
